American Red Cross Dental Clinic in Norfolk earns the
American Dental Association’s (ADA) Community Dentistry Award
The American Dental Association’s (ADA) Community Dentistry Award recognizes programs focused on improving oral health on the community level. The ADA’s Council on Access, Prevention and Interprofessional Relations sponsors the award and reflects the sponsors’ desire to continue to foster and recognize community oral health programs.
The American Red Cross Adult Dental Clinic provides dental services to residents of Norfolk, Virginia who have no other means of receiving care. The program was established in 1999 as a cooperative effort of the Norfolk Health Department, Tidewater Dental Association, McGriff Dental Society, Old Dominion University School of Dental Hygiene and the United States Navy Dental Command. The program is staffed by 55 volunteer dentists, 8 volunteer dental hygienists and 20 volunteer dental assistants
The Clinic also hosts the American Red Cross Dental Assistant Program which
provides students who want to enter the field of dentistry with a well-rounded course of instruction needed to move ahead in a challenging and fulfilling profession. Eligibility and Services at our Dental Clinic
Who is Eligible
The American Red Cross Adult Dental Clinic is for patients who meet these requirements:
- Age 18 or older
- Do not have dental insurance.
- Do not have a current relationship with a dentist.
- Are residents of Norfolk.
- Are living at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Dental visits are scheduled for two evenings each week and two Mondays each month.
Eligibility Screening
Screenings are on Mondays at 8:00 AM (Except Holidays) at the Park Place Neighborhood Service Center. A limited number of appointments are available each week on a first come first serve basis.

(Last three pay stubs or last tax return)
- Proof of Norfolk residency
(A utility bill or other document mailed to the applicant at their Norfolk address)
- Picture ID
(Drivers License or Identification card as proof of age - all patients must be 18 or older)

All dental services are provided by dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants who volunteer their time to care for you.
Why Do I Pay a Fee?
The fee you pay is a small amount of the cost of materials needed to care for you. The balance is funded by donations.

Red Cross Dental Clinic
How can you help?
If you are a Dentist, Hygienist, Dental Assistant, you can share your skills by volunteering as little as once every three months.
How long will I be at the clinic?
Most volunteers are at the clinic less than 3 hours or less.
When is the clinic open?
The clinic is open on selected Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We are also open days two Mondays each month. Mid September through April the clinic has additional hours through a grant from the Virginia Health Care Foundation.
